Hide or Show Hidden Files on a mac How to Guide

To hide or show hidden files you will need to use apple’s terminal application. Terminal is located in the Applications/Utilites folder. Please use at your own risk. Terminal is a very powerful application and can get messy fast and remember not to start deleting hidden files that you think you don’ t need.

To show hidden files type or copy and paste the below into terminal:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder

Hit the Return button to activate command.

You should start to see files with a . in the start of the name.  These files are the normally hidden files.  Remember to re hide the hidden file when you are finished.

To no longer show hidden files type or copy and paste the below in terminal:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder

Hit the Return button to activate command.
