Question about granite slab in outdoor firepit

I’m planning on building a simple firepit in my backyard. My plan is to have it be about 2 feet in diameter and surrounded with rocks. I really just want it to be like a campground firepit in the ground that I can set up camp chairs and enjoy. My parents have some old granite countertops from a kitchen renovation and suggested that I take a slab and use it as the base of the firepit on top of a bed of sand.I have concerns about it getting hot and exploding though. I’ve searched around on the internet and have generally read that granite would not explode, but the guy doing the renovation said that it would.Does anyone know if I should forego using this granite and just use some firebrick instead? I mostly want a flat bottom to make it easier to clean out. via /r/DIY
