Wood Glue, CA, or Other for gluing Poplar to Hardboard? via /r/DIY

Wood Glue, CA, or Other for gluing Poplar to Hardboard?

I am making some internal trays for something and I'd prefer to use the 1/8 tempered hardboard over 1/4 MDF, to save height, and I will be needing to affix 3/4 strips (up to 13in long) across the trays. I would like to glue to the smooth side, but will common CA or Wood Glue actually bond the smooth side of the hardboard to the wood?

I like the rigidity that comes even in a lower thickness of the harboard over the 1/4 MDF, as they are going to stack in a drawer, but it is not the end of the world if I have to use MDF. I just wanted to ask before I go to the store.

Thanks.
