Can I legally (based on electrical codes in the US) wire a light from the second terminals on an outlet?

I have an existing outlet in the basement that is on a switch. I want to install a light socket near that powered by the same switch. Can I just run the wire from the outlet series terminals to the new light? Is that fine in terms of electrical code? I couldn't find anything either way so curious if anyone here knows.
