Paver Patio Right Against the House Foundation
I am starting to research a DIY paver patio installation for my backyard. One detail I have not been able to nail down is how to install a patio which directly abuts the house. I am in central Virginia. The house foundation is CMU sitting on poured concrete footers with a brick fascia and a crawl-space inside (no basement). Is the normal process of digging 4-6" for the compacted gravel base layer still recommended if it is right against the house foundation? Do I need any special expansion joint or moisture barrier between foundation CMU and gravel/sand for the patio?
