Irrigation: System inconsistently is unable to fully pressurize, so water simply leaks out the sprinkler heads. Other times, it pressurizes successfully and sprinklers work as normal.

As the subject states, the system is basically does not start consistently (regardless of manual or scheduled starts). When it fails to pressurize, what just pours out and around the sprinkler heads, essentially flooding that adjacent area. Other times it starts up just fine as if nothing is wrong.

Need some help understanding how to troubleshoot these inconsistent startups. Google has not yielded anything of value..
