Laminate stair nose woes

I'm installing Shaw laminate stair noses to finish up my basement project. I made sure to make all the measurements and accurate cuts so that everything fits properly, and I screwed in the metal tracks as well.

Now the directions simply stated "Press the stair nose firmly into the metal track," which is what I attempted at first. However, no matter what I tried, I could only get 2 out of 8 to install properly. The other 6 broke as a result of the stair noses' inability to properly engage, and now there are broken off wedges of product inside their respective tracks.

I'm thinking about just getting some construction adhesive and gluing/weighing them down, instead of buying all new product only to have the same thing happen again. Would this be a viable solution?
