Hot Water Heater Help – pilot stays lit, burner does not always come on.
I have a question regarding my hot water heater! It is a GE GG40S0GAVJ00 40 gallon gas-fired unit. It has an AP14270G-1 thermostat/valve.
The pilot stays lit fine, but the burner does not come on sometimes, resulting in sometimes cold showers, or lukewarm dish washing, etc. I am wondering if the valve assembly is possibly getting suck or going.
Last night while my wife was taking a shower I went downstairs and checked it out. The pilot was lit only. I gave the thermostat/valve a couple of taps around the knob with a pair of pliers and lo and behold the burner fired off!
This leads me to beleive that this thermostat (AP14270G) is dying, getting stuck, etc. and that I should order a new one and replace it. Does this sound like a correct assesment? From what I've read it doesn't sound like this is a thermocouple, spark electrode/ignitor, or pilot issue.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS IN ADVANCE!
