Interior Trim Questions

There is a gap between the wall and trim. Looks like someone didn't fit the trim well around the baseboard pipe. Rather than remove the trim, could I fill the gap with caulk or something else?

Also, on the other side, the trim was not attached. I see that there is a hole in the wall. Would I need to address that separate from sealing the trim against the wall? And could I use Titebond wood glue to seal the trim? (I don't have a nail gun).
