I bought a nice antique looking dining room table online, that has a cool rustic wood texture on top that I really like; everything about this table I ABSOLUTELY adore; except whoever made it decide to finish the top with a red and blue paint/finish.

Are there chemicals I could use to remove the finish/paint without having to sand it down? I don't mind if it still has a rustic uneven finish at the end, I just want to mute the colors more because right now they're a pretty obnoxious red and blue that really takes away from the iron siding and earth colors of the table.
