Redwood Fence – prime/paint before installation?
Wood experts of Reddit, please assist! I live in Orange County, CA and am installing a new redwood fence running around our yard (a few hundred feet in total). Our old fence is rotting. We are planning on painting the fence. The person we are hiring to paint the fence said that in order to protect the wood, we need to have the wood primed prior to installation to ensure every square inch is covered, then installed, and then painted. Is he correct that this will help the fence last longer? If so, should the fence also be painted prior to installation, or will priming first be sufficient?
