Wood underneath back door seems to be disintegrating / rotting – can someone help point me in the right direction with fixing it?

So the issue is I am not even sure what you'd call this, but there's a piece of wood that runs underneath the metal base of my back door, and as you can see in these photos, the right hand side in particular seems to be falling apart and receding:

I saw wood dust on the floor and thought I had bugs at first, but the pest control person told me it may be the wood simply falling apart because of the high humidity and rainfall we've been getting. They said normally I'd see bugs around if that's what was causing it.

My first issue is I don't even know what to google because I'm not sure if there's a specific name for the wood slab that goes under the metal?

Would anyone be able to give me advice or point me in the right direction on how I could fix this or keep it from worsening any further?

Thanks!
