Help/Question on wiring extension cord via /r/DIY

Help/Question on wiring extension cord Please help non-electrician here- I had to make an extension cord for a non-standard plug (NEMA 5-20P) and i wired correctly i think (green to green, white to silver, and black to gold) but the wire they gave me at the store is 16-4 (rated for 300 volts) and it had an extra red wire in it – i just snipped that off and didn’t connect it – is that ok? The appliance is 120V, 9.6A, 1152W. They were out of 14/3 and told me this should work but just want make sure it will be safe as we will be running this appliance 24/7. Thanks!
